The Jackson County Historical Society is continuing a project to scan and archive all of the Ava Citizen Newspapers. We need help in acquiring the necessary equipment and software to accomplish this project. Many of these issues have already been captured but we have over 300 that still need to be scanned and archived. While we have software in our toolkit that will allow the documents to be full text searchable, we do not have the hardware needed to capture the images quickly, accurately, and without the fear of damaging the pages.
With your donation, our hope is to have adequate funding by early August so that we can acquire what is needed to kick the project off in September.
Urgent Storage Needs!!
We have an urgent need to place our massive collection of historical documents into Acid-Free storage containers.
If an acidic product comes into contact with paper, photos, textiles or other similar items, the acid can migrate, causing permanent damage and decay. This is why it is so very important to use good quality Acid Free and archival materials for the preservation of your treasured memories.
Storage in archival products will slow the aging process and add years of life to the items you value. It is better to prevent damage and deterioration, than try to repair or correct it.
Your donations to this project can help us preserve so many of our historic documents.
